New Park Maintenance Facility Construction Begins
Tuesday, October 7, 2025
The Park District has officially begun construction on a significant renovation project aimed at modernizing its Park Maintenance Facility. Approved by voters in the 2024 referendum, the project will replace five aging buildings--ranging from 40 to 95 years old--with a single, energy-efficient facility. This initiative represents a major step forward in improving both operational efficiency and sustainability.
In addition to the new maintenance building, the project includes the removal of existing greenhouses. A state-of-the-art greenhouse is scheduled to be installed at Shelton Park later this fall. The ballfield adjacent to the Takiff Center will also undergo substantial upgrades, including the addition of new backstops, dugouts, light poles, and a revamped drainage system designed to enhance playability. Ballfield renovations are set to begin in September, with plans to reopen in the spring.
During construction, visitors to the Takiff Center may encounter increased construction traffic and limited parking. The Park District appreciates the community's patience and understanding as work progresses.
The entire project is expected to be completed by June 2026. These upgrades are a significant investment in the future of the Park District's operations and facilities, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainability and community improvement.
